1. Get a Budget
First things first, you need a budget. Who is going to be paying for the wedding? You? Your parents? Your in-laws? Once you have a firm number, that's when you can really get started on the actual planning process. Remember that money goes quickly, so it's important that you allocate it wherever it needs to be.
2. Get Your Guest List Together
When you know how many people are coming to your wedding, you will know how big of a venue you will need, how much food you are going to have to serve, what lodging you are going to have to arrange for, and everything else. Make sure that you and your fiancé sit down together and lay out a guest list together of everyone who you want to be there. This is a really good jumping off point.
3. Find a Venue
The next thing you should do is find a venue. The best thing about finding a venue at the beginning of the process is that you will see what's included in the venue rental. For instance, some event venues have fine dining, tables, linens, flowers, servers, and everything else included in it. This means there won't be much left for you to do.
However, there are other venues that won't have anything included in it which will mean that you will have to find the other services on your own. If you find a venue that doesn't include these things, make sure that you aren't spending too much money on it because you will need money for some other things.
